A: The Calgary Games Society is a provincially registered society made up of a group of dedicated volunteers who are facilitating the return of the Calgary Highland Games after a 6 year hiatus.
Following the Covid Pandemic, a series of unfortunate circumstances resulted in the loss of a 115 year tradition in Calgary. To assure the continued health of piping. drumming, Highland dance, Heavy Events and the music and culture of the Irish community, we are rebuilding this once vibrant organization.
A: Partnering with Spruce Meadows, The Calgary Games offers an immersive experience celebrating Scottish culture through piping, drumming, Highland dancing, and heavy events. Visitors can enjoy live performances, participate in traditional competitions, and explore various clan societies and Scottish associations. It’s an ideal event for families, cultural enthusiasts, and anyone interested in Scottish traditions.
A: Every year, Spruce Meadows presents a number of world class equestrian events. The Spruce Meadows North American Tournament happens every July. For several years, the half time show has enjoyed a Scottish theme with the presentation of massed pipes and drums. This has evolved into the Calgary Celtic Festival.
A: As we already gather the local pipe bands to present the half time show for the North American Tournament, it was decided to turn this into a family friendly event to showcase Irish and Scottish cultures as part of the show. An opportunity to experience the sight, sound and colour of these cultures.
A: You bet we do! Individuals or groups with specific skill sets or folks who just want to be a part of this great experience are invited to join us. Please click here for more information
